Is Hanoi Warm In December For Xmas?

Vietnam as a whole has very mild and dry weather conditions for all of December including Christmas and into January. Hanoi which is in the north, usually sees temperatures between 15°C and 22°C with only one day or so of rainfall expected in the whole month.

The humidity is fairly low as well making it the perfect month to travel to Hanoi as you’re not constantly sweating and needing to shower like many other parts of South East Asia.

However, if you venture down to the southern part of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, it has much warmer temperatures usually between 23°C and 31°C with a higher humidity so make sure you take plenty of fluids if you decide to venture out.

What Is The Best Month In Hanoi For Weather

For me, anytime between September and April are the best months weather wise to visit Hanoi, with temperatures ranging between 20-24 degrees in Autumn and dropping down to a low of 10 degrees in Winter and over Xmas.

The lower temperatures in Winter don’t bother me because it’s a welcome change to the stifling heat you get many other times of the year.

Also the cooler weather and blue skies, as well as the mild dry temperatures, are perfect for wandering around Hanoi’s many interesting attractions on foot as you’re not constantly looking for shade or having to carry heavy water bottles around all day long to rehydrate.

What Is The Worst Month In Hanoi For Weather

Without doubt the hottest and most humid month of the year in Hanoi is in the Summer month of June, with an average high of around 95°F and a low of around 78°F, making it unbearable at times to be outside and walking around.

It’s also classed as low season because the following months of July to September are the wettest months of the entire year with monsoon like heavy rain and flooding in certain parts a regular occurrence.
